Travelling with Jewellery

Top tips to keeping your jewellery safe whilst on your trip.

Insure it.
If you do one thing - insure your jewellery. Even if you are not off on your holidays. Make sure its insured. Check your home insurance or travel insurance, with any highly valuable pieces insured individually.

Picture it.
Spread your jewellery out and take a picture before you leave.  Documenting it this way means you will have a visual inventory of the pieces your are taking with you. If you need to report it to the police or file an insurance claim you - and they -will find this really useful to have.

Leave it.
Dont take your family heirloom piece. Holiday jewellery should be cheaper, fun items that should you lose them, or have them stolen will be ‘a shame’ and not devastating. That said, dont assume anything you leave at home will automatically be safe whilst you are away; rent a safety deposit box, store in a safe, leave with a relative, or hide in an {very} inconspicuous location in your house.

Pack it.
Pack your necklaces with care or they can become tangled during the journey. You can thread chains thro a straw to keep them straight in your case.

Soft jewellery rolls are a great idea, keeping everything in their own compartment and yet taking up next to no space in your luggage.
Save those mini mint sweet tins, or tic tac cases for packing your earrings in. Travel soap dishes work well too.

Or our favourite tip - Old buttons are a great way to travel stud earrings safely. Thread them through the holes in the button and fasten the earrings backs back on.

Keep it safe.
Never leave anything in your hotel room, especially in your suitcase. Use the room safe or the receptionist can store in the hotel safe for you.

Take it off.
Take it off in the hotel room, before applying sunscreen. Sunscreen can discolour or damage your jewellery - plus it also makes your skin slippery, meaning rings and bracelets may slip off much more easily than usual.

Keep it off.
Keep it off when swimming in the pool or the sea; neither salt water or chlorine are kind to your jewellery. Chlorine causes discolouration, and damage to precious metals and salt water causes erosion and weakening of the clasps and settings.

Wash it.
Rinse your jewellery under cold water at the end of the day to remove all sweat, sand, salt and sunscreen.
