The Most Expensive Jewellery Sold At Auction In 2022

It was certainly a year for spectacular selling in the Auction Houses, with records broken over and over again. Fancy coloured diamonds were the big sellers.
The Christie’s 'Magnificent Jewels' auction in Geneva was held on 8 November 2022 and the highlight of the auction was the Fortune Pink. Weighing 18.18 carats, The Fortune Pink sold for £25,281,480 and is the largest pear-shaped fancy vivid pink diamond ever to be sold at auction.

Hong Kong’s 'Autumn Live' jewellery auction in October 2022 featured the spectacular sale of the Williamson Pink Star, an 11.15-carat, cushion-shaped, fancy vivid pink and internally flawless diamond ring. A private buyer in the United States secured the pink diamond for US$58 million. ( £46,819,340.00)

At the Poly Auction House in Hong Kong’s autumn sale, also held in October 2022, a Cartier ring mounted with a spectacular 8.388-carat Burmese ruby in modified oval shape and accentuated with diamonds, sold for US$7.3 million (£5,891,246.00 )

In June 2022 Christie's sold The Light Of Africa Diamond; a sensational emerald-cut diamond of 103.49 carats. It realised the amount of just over 20 million dollars (Just over £16 million)

In the same month, in Sotheby’s 'Luxury Week' Auction, the Juno diamond was sold. The Juno diamond is a remarkable 101.41 carat D colour, internally flawless, pear-shaped diamond. Named after Juno the goddess of love, marriage, and community. It sold for just under 13million dollars (£10.4 million).

The Circe Diamond ring, a cushion-shaped fancy vivid blue diamond weighing 3.27 carats, the surround set with brilliant-cut diamonds, spaced with sections of chalcedony, was sold at one of Sotheby’s luxury auction for 5.3 million dollars (£4,035,100.00)

In December 2022, at Sotheby’s New York auction, the star of the show was the Yellow Canary, a 303.10-carat, fancy deep brownish-yellow diamond, that sold for $12.4 million, (£10,007,384.04)

A favourite from the same Auction was the 5.27-carat Colombian emerald ring salvaged from from the legendary Atocha shipwreck of 1622, which achieved more than 17 times its high estimate- finally selling for $1.2 million (£968,364.00) It was sold on behalf of author and philanthropist Mitzi Perdue, who said all proceeds were going towards humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
