The Birthstone for September is the sapphire.

The name “sapphire” came from the Greek word sappheiros, referring to a blue stone.
Although sapphire typically refers to the rich blue gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, this royal gemstone occurs in a whole rainbow of hues. Sapphires can come in every colour - except red, which earns the classification of rubies instead.

It was believed to increase one’s overall health and strength, and contain healing powers, especially for diseases of the eye and against poisons.
We dont know about that, but we do know every piece of sapphire jewellery looks fabulous!

he greeks wore sapphires for guidance when seeking answers from the Oracle, believing it to be the stone of Zeus, God of the sky.
It is said that ancient Persians believed that Earth rested on a giant sapphire that made the sky blue. - an absolutely lovely image!
Buddhists believed it brought enlightenment, Hindus used it during worship, and early Christian kings believed in the power of a sapphire’s protection by wearing it in rings.

And of course it became a symbol of love when Prince Charles gave Princess Dianna a 12-carat sapphire engagement ring, that later Prince William gave to Kate Middleton.
Found in various places across the world, though Australia was a significant source of sapphires until deposits were discovered in Madagascar during the 1990s. Madagascar now leads the world in sapphire gemstone production.

Today, top-quality blue sapphire remains one of Mother Nature’s rarest gemstones.
