Opal: October’s Birthstone
Share
Opal is October’s birthstone, admired for its unique iridescent play-of-colour.

Opals are composed of hydrated silica and rank 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs scale. Their internal water content means they require careful handling. This is not a jewel to wear whilst bathing!
Australia remains the most famous source, with Ethiopia also producing beautiful opals.

Did you know no two opals are alike, making each piece of opal jewellery entirely unique. And a wonderful gift to give to your one and only!

In ancient Rome, opals were seen as symbols of hope and purity, while later traditions associated them with confidence and originality. With colours like only an opal has, they have long been associated with creativity, individuality, and emotional expression.

Today, opals are valued as gemstones that celebrate self-expression and individuality, appealing to those drawn to distinctive jewellery. There is a new and exciting interest in opals causing many a celebrity or designer brand to turn to opal as their gemstone of choice.
