Five Facts About The Orange Sapphire
Share
These bright and vibrant gemstones are pretty special. Read on to find out why...

- The fabulous orange sapphire is one of the rarest colour varieties present today and can only be found in small limited areas of places like Australia, Sri Lanka and parts of Africa. In fact, the availability of the untreated orange jewel is so limited that it can only really be upstaged by the Padparadscha sapphire (a unique and extremely valuable orange-pink variety).
- During their formation process, the orange sapphire is coloured by a combination of chromium (red) and iron (yellow) trace minerals. You can get treated sapphires that have been forced to turn orange but these are not considered 'proper' or of similar value to the natural version.
- The more pure and vibrant the orange the rarer and more valuable the stone is. Its not common to find these in huge sizes either, in fact incredibly difficult- meaning the larger the vibrant orange sapphire the bigger the dent on your wallet.
- With a MOHS scale hardness of 9 these are some of the toughest gemstones out there.
- Orange sapphires supposedly symbolise inspiration, bliss, and optimism. They have been linked to the sun, and worn a talisman by many a creative. They’re also said to provide wisdom for decision-making and encourage empowerment.
We cant vouch for all the spiritual claims - but we do think these sapphires are absolutely stunning!
